What does it mean when your TV looks like this? What does it mean when your TV looks like this?

A quick off/on usually gets it going again, at least for a little while. Sometimes it’ll go hours without incident. I have no clue what brand of TV was used to make this contraption, but it’s at least 10 years old, and the manufacturer is out of business.

Guess where I was yesterday  Guess where I was yesterday

Scary day Scary day

Since this is the last good weather day for some time I thought I’d take mom over to see the Gateway Arch. Things were going fine and we got some great pics (to be posted later) from the observation area at the top. But all day I’ve been feeling weak, having to sit down frequently. The problem got worse on the way…

DOTS STL  DOTS STL

Spotted this lifted beauty outside of a Greek restaurant I tried to stop at yesterday (they were closed on Mondays - grrrr). This is only the second Vanagon I've seen since relocating to the rust belt six years ago. Mom and I both snapped pics; she had an almost identical 1990 Carat she kept for 12 years; I wish I…

WTF, Sony? WTF, Sony?

Over the months I’ve picked up some cheap BD players and some BD player remotes, and after getting the 42" monitor working perfectly today (all the buttons I needed were tucked neatly into the upper portion of the case and not visible until I had it horizontal), I hooked up a this Sony unit I had. Everything seemed to…

Well, umm, that's a surprise... Well, umm, that's a surprise...

It wasn’t until I showered for the first time after surgery that I noticed that, well, the hospital has apparently given me a little shave down below. The incisions were considerably higher up, but I guess to secure the Foley they needed to do that. Not like I was in any position to argue the point or anything, but…

The $20 TV thingy is alive! The $20 TV thingy is alive!

It’s running, albeit on the Roku instead of the Apple TV. The ‘TV’ has sound, but I have no idea how to control the actual TV guts that lurk within this big metal box so I can’t turn the volume up or down or change inputs; I don’t know the brand of the TV, nor do I know where the IR sensor is located.

And I am outta here... And I am outta here...

The nurse just stopped by and said that the Doctor has put in my discharge orders. Only about 48 hours after a major surgery I’m heading home - woohoo! They said they were putting me on a low-residual diet and I expected bland mush. But the tray that came had scrambled eggs, sausage, English muffins, potatoes, a…

Getting a little froggy out Getting a little froggy out

It’s apparently getting colder outside, but I’m still in the same old spot. As with most hospitals, it’s frigging cold in here. Things are progressing nicely, and with any luck I should be out of here tomorrow. I met with Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy and passed all of their tests, even taking a stroll…

Greetings from the hospital  Greetings from the hospital

Surgery was yesterday and apparently went exactly as planned. No need to slice me open, just four incisions and the robot did its thing. A few dissolving sutures covered in giant globs of cyanoacrylate (super glue). There is a bit of pain when I move but I think that’s to be expected.

It's still cold

-1 this morning. 55 in the house right now. I thought something was wrong with the indoor/outdoor thermometer since it seemed to be reading 86 degrees, but then I realized that I missed the decimal point - 8.6 degrees.

Only four more days of solid food Only four more days of solid food

Since I’ll be on a liquid diet for a couple of weeks and then a bland, mushy diet for a several weeks after that, I figured that I’d better make these last few meals count.

Automotive pet peeve of the day Automotive pet peeve of the day

Today I heard it from Tavarish, and before, when I listened to him, Adam Carolla would say the same thing. Whenever someone says this it drives me absolutely buggy. It has the same effect on me as when someone says ‘irregardless’.

Dammit, Costco... Dammit, Costco...

Why aren’t you ordering more of these amazing olives? I’m sure as hell not going to buy a jar from Amazon for $35 when you were selling the same size for $8. I guess I’m going to have to make these last two jars last a few months, but the way I indulge in these delectable morsels I know that this is not going to…

Thirty six thousand, four hundred dollars Thirty six thousand, four hundred dollars

That’s the base price on a BMW X2, a vehicle I didn’t even know existed until today. And that is my nephew’s first car, a kid that doesn’t even have his license yet. He probably didn’t get the base model, either. When they said that he got a BMW as his first car, I thought my folks were about to tell me that it was…

I'm tired... I'm tired...

I’m having a hard time moving, and I didn’t really do the heavy lifting. I did stage the boxes from inside to the porch and my friend took stuff down to the basement. Yeah, it’s not perfect, but I only had help for 5 hours. The kitchen hasn’t been touched, and the downstairs bedroom is still needs work, but I still…
